Feng Shui is a complex mathematical system developed by Chinese scholars through observations accumulated over a thousand of years. A method of harmonizing the environment with the calculation of time and space. Feng Shui is not a religion nor superstition. It is a science incorporating the astronomy, geography, environment, magnetic fields and physics.
What is Feng Shui literally?
Feng Shui literally means Feng is “Wind” while Shui is “Water”. These two elements, wind and water, every single moment move. It moves and it has life of its own. This is the Chi or the energy that makes up the Feng Shui. The Chi moves to bring good fortune to people living in the house or building. When Chi becomes stagnant because of some barrier of any objects, it affects people. People experienced bad luck thru misfortune, sickness, separation, fights, loss of income, etc.
kept in secret
In ancient China, only the emperors, nobles and privileged few have access to Feng Shui. It was discreetly kept in secret to safeguard and secure their thrones. In any case, when known to people who do not belong to the elite society, they were being punished. For example, by killing them to prevent disseminating the information to everyone.
Types, Techniques and Methods of Feng Shui
Form Branch
The Form Branch is the oldest branch of Feng Shui.
The Form branch was originally concerned with the location and orientation of tombs, which was of great importance. The branch then progressed to the consideration of homes and other buildings.
The “form” in Form branch refers to the shape of the environment, such as mountains, rivers, plateaus, buildings, and general surroundings. It considers the five celestial animals (phoenix, green dragon, white tiger, black turtle, and the yellow snake). Another one, the yin-yang concept and the traditional five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water).
The Form branch analyzes the shape of the land and flow of the wind and water to find an ideal place. It also considers the time of important events such as the birth of the resident and the building of the structure.
Compass Branch
The Compass branch is a collection of more recent Feng Shui techniques based on the eight cardinal directions. Each of the cardinal sections have said has unique Qi. It uses the Loupan, a disc marked with formulas in concentric rings around a magnetic compass.
The Compass Branch includes techniques such as Flying Star and Eight Mansions.

Transmission of traditional Feng Shui techniques
Books are written by Feng Shui masters and students throughout history. Aside from the books, there is also strong oral history. In many cases, masters have passed on their techniques only to selected students or relatives.
Current usage of traditional branches
There is no contemporary agreement that one of the traditional branches is most correct. Therefore, modern practitioners of Feng Shui generally draw from multiple branches in their own practices.
Western forms of Feng Shui
More recent forms of Feng Shui are simplified principles that come from the traditional branches, and focus mainly on the use of the bagua.
Aspirations Method
The Eight Life Aspirations style of Feng Shui is a simple system which coordinates each of the eight cardinal directions. It has specific life aspiration or station such as family, wealth, fame, etc. It comes from the Bagua government of the eight aspiration. Life Aspirations is not otherwise a geomantic system.
Because of its dramatic effects on the life of individual, Feng Shui today is widely accepted and become popular.
